Southwest and Northwest Friesland

The province of Friesland is known for its meadows as far as the eye can see and for water. Indeed, many Frisian traditions have an aquatic link, like the Sneekweek (sailing event) and the Elfstedentocht (a legendary skating match linking 11 cities). Add to this the characteristic folkloric costumes and the enthralling history of many Frisian towns and you’ll appreciate how varied this route through “Fryslân” is! The route includes some of the “11 cities” towns, like Franeker and Harlingen.
