I first learned about Marquette when my son decided to go to Northern Michigan University. Home of the 10th largest wooden built dome in the world for a variety of sports including football and soccer, and a fantastic hockey team as well as an excellent school curriculum.
Regarding winter fatbike tourisim, check out this cool video Marquette produced about their trails and the fatbike culture /travel-companies/marquette-county-mi/
Now, check out the video on the Marji Gesick 100 mile race every September. Very few finish the race in the required 12 hours to get a belt and most don’t finish the distance. Perhaps that is why they now have a 50 mile distance.
The race is named after the Native American indian who it is written, led the Anglo-American prospectors to Marquette Iron Ore range in this wild and difficult part of the country.
