Epic Climbs – Mauna Kea

I love hard climbs but sometimes wonder why when doing them. So when I read a recent article on Mauna Kea, I wanted to learn more about it. Check out this excellent and detailed article from 2014 on Cycling Tips.

Hawaii vacations are beautiful but how about a nice beach vacation tied in with an Epic ride on the big Island of Hawaii! The ride starts on the east side of Hawaii in Hilo, and climbs 43 miles on a road that is unpaved in places, reaching almost 14,000 feet with gradients reaching 20%!

Thank you to Cycling Tips for publishing the original article in 2014, the author Martin Hoff, and the photos from Hawaii photograper Jonathan Rawle. Be sure to keep scrolling after the copy to see his beautiful photography.
