Lake Geneva, Beautiful Scenery, Rural Roads

Several years ago when we were training for Ride The Rockies, we participated in the Bicycle Club of Lake County Ramble ride through Southern Wisconsin. Much of the Ramble became our training route and we try to do this ride now at least once a year.

We start our ride in the Wilmot High School parking lot, then ride northwest through Powers Lake and Lyons to arrive at our first stop, Lake Geneva. Fall is a good time to ride as the weather (normally) is cooler than the summer, and the roads are quiet as vacation season is done.

Up through Lyons we ride past pretty and expensive summer homes, working farms and gentleman farms. The shoulders are pretty good, but not to worry because there aren’t very many cars on the roads. It is more common to see motorcycles on the roads for the same reason we are – to get away from traffic and enjoy the beauty of Southern Wisconsin.

There aren’t very many hills except for Knob Road which is also part of the Wheeling Wheelmen Harmon 100 ride.

Normally we ride all way around Lake Geneva and stop at Daddy Maxwell’s in Williams Bay for breakfast, but this year we turned around at Lake Geneva and stopped at Starbucks on the east side of the town. This is still a 51 mile ride and the temps were in the high 80’s so we got plenty of exercise.

Once we start the return ride, we take a quick ride by the lakefront for the nice view.

Then it is back towards Wilmot but not before stopping at End Of The Line condos on East Townline Road – railroad cars which I think used to be a motel. There is a listing on Airbnb for one of them and it is across the road from Arial Adventures, where you can take a zip line ride and participate in other outdoor activities. Pretty cool!

We then ride back into farm country ending up on Broomfield Road. Keep a look out for the community with airplane hangers and a landing strip on the south side of the road. We’ve only seen one plane take off in the years we’ve ridden by the landing strip but it was very interesting.

Just after Genoa City is a park and bathrooms if you need to stop. The weather was so warm, we stopped for ice cream in Twin Lakes, the last town before arriving back in Wilmot.

On your last long incline after Twin Lakes, you’ll find Harvest Time Orchards and Oriole Springs Orchards on 128^th Street you can pick your own apples. It is a quick drive back by car from Wilmot.

The ride ends with a long 1+ mile descent back into Wilmot. We enjoy this ride and are happy to give you more details – just shoot me an email or give me a call.
